WELCOME TO STUBS

STUBS (as in 'ticket stubs') is a registered charity that provides practical support for UK armed services personnel who have been severely injured whilst on duty.

A key aspect of STUBS work is support for the UK's most seriously injured servicemen and servicewomen, who are in-patients at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), formerley at Headley Court, Epsom, and now relocated to Stanford Hall near Loughborough. Severely-injured in-patients are frequent visitors to STUBS events including Wasps home games, where STUBS uses the Director's box on the halfway line offering patients a great view of the action. Patients also attend a wide range of other sporting events and for many, their initial outing to a STUBS event is their first time out in public since being injured.

"STUBS at Work" Video

The 'STUBS at Work' video was made by students at Bucks New University in High Wycombe.

Can You Help Please?

Why not do a sponsored event in aid of STUBS?

If we can raise £250,000 (that’s over £300,000 with Gift Aid!!) we can secure our long term future and ensure that we can continue to provide support for DMRC for the foreseeable future.

What We Do?

Chelsea Pensioners with Wasps and England player Joe Worsley

STUBS events have a considerable therapeutic value. Its not just a "trip to the rugby" - its being made to feel special, and valued, at a life-changing time, that gives patients a special "buzz" that really helps with their rehabilitation.  A booklet detailing our work with DMRC, that includes a foreword by the Commanding Officer, medical opinion from therapists and linguistic specialists, and patient feedback, can be downloaded here.

On a typical match day, guests will join us for lunch before enjoying the match from seats close to the halfway line. We use the Director's Box as this means that we can host patients with quite severe injuries who are still needing ongoing care. Everything is on one level, with no steps or stairs to climb, and the box provides a safe and secure environment for patients who are still recovering.

After the match our guests will usually enjoy a visit from one or more of the team, who conduct a draw for a signed match ball. Each guest receives a signed photo as a memento of their visit.

Testimonials

“This is a worthwhile venture that deserves your wholehearted support”.
